The match between Portugal and Uruguay for the Qatar 2022 World Cup will surely leave us with a procedure to enjoy.
Portugal will enter Monday’s Group H competition with Uruguay, knowing a win would see them qualify for the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup with one game to play. Fernando Santos’ side recorded a 3-2 win over Ghana in their first match of the tournament on Thursday night, while Uruguay drew goalless with South Korea earlier in the day.
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first men’s player to score in five World Cups when he found the back of the net from the penalty spot against Ghana on Thursday afternoon. Portugal were 3-1 up in Doha until the late stages, but Osman Bukari made it 3-2 before Iñaki Williams missed a great equalizer chance in the final moments, with the Athletic Bilbao striker slipping past the goal after he had cleverly taken the ball from Diogo Costa inside the penalty area.
Uruguay struck twice in its first match of the tournament with South Korea on Thursday, with Diego Godin headed against the post in the first half before Federico Valverde hit the woodwork in the latter stages of what proved to be a goalless draw. Diego Alonso’s side cannot qualify or be eliminated on matchday two, but a poor result would certainly leave them vulnerable ahead of their final leg match against Ghana on Dec. 2.
