Justin Herbert and Los Angeles Chargers would be negotiating a long-term contract, according to ESPN, from where they ensure that the team will still execute the formalism of making valid the fifth year option in the rookie agreement. In this way, the player will become the first quarterback of the 2020 class with a contract extension.

It’s important to remember that quarterbacks the likes of Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts were also part of the class of 2020.
According to the same report, Justin Herbert’s contract extension is expected to be for approximately $50 million per year. So far the Chargers have not set a deadline to close the deal but it is said that the player would be happy to renew with the team and become one of the highest paid in the NFL in his position.
For his part, the general manager of the team, Tom Telesco on Justin Herbert’s new contract, indicated that he has earned it and believes they can win a Super Bowl with their talent in the franchise.

It should be noted that Herbert underwent surgery on his left shoulder last January and although it is not known the date on which he will be definitively discharged, it is not something that worries in the negotiations since the operation is considered a minor surgery and without major problems for his recovery.
Brandon Staley, coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, confirmed that the talks are ongoing and are very advanced, which is why they confirm that their 25-year-old star quarterback can stay for many more years within the team.
