The Las Vegas Raiders on Monday dismissed defensive backs Roderic Teamer, for their arrest in the early hours of Sunday morning, and Marcus Peters, for poor performance in the 2023 NFL season.
What happened to Roderic Teamer?
Teamer was arrested hours before his team’s Week 12 game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He was arrested for speeding under the influence in Las Vegas, local police said.
“The Raiders are aware of an incident involving Roderic Teamer last night. The team is in the process of gathering more information,” was the statement issued by the Raiders before the game they lost 17-31 to the Chiefs.
The 26-year-old was released on Sunday morning and was informed he was not considered to perform. It’s not the first time Roderic Teamer has had disciplinary problems. In the 2020 season, he was suspended four games by the NFL for using substances banned by the league.
Marcus Peters’ underperformance
Also on Monday, the Raiders ended their relationship with three-time Pro Bowl selection Marcus Peters due to the cornerback’s poor performance so far this season in which he has accumulated 43 tackles, five passes defensed and one interception in 10 games. These numbers contrast with the 32 interceptions and 389 tackles Marcus had with the Chiefs, Rams and Ravens.
Antonio Pierce, the team’s interim coach, made the decision to release Peters after his performance in the Kansas City game in which the 30-year-old was benched midway through the second quarter after missing a tackle.
On the side of the field, the player argued with his coach for a few minutes before resigning himself to watching the rest of the game from the sidelines.
It should be remembered that head coach Josh McDaniels was fired on November 1 for the poor performance of the team, which is in third place in the Western division of the American Conference with five wins and seven losses, a balance that until the twelfth week leaves them out of the Playoffs.
