Which towns are competing in ‘The Summer Grand Prix’ tonight?

Ramón García (62 years old) and his team made up of Cristina López (Cristinini), Wilbur, the Heifer and the dinosaur Nico are at the helm of a new installment of TVE’s ‘El Grand Prix del Verano’. They do so after the most familiar program on the television grid returned on July 8. This second season has managed to lead its broadcast slot and fight with Telecinco’s flagship, ‘Supervivientes All Stars’. Last week Olvera, Cádiz, was victorious after dueling with Cangas de Onís, Asturias, with Twin Melody and María del Monte as godmothers.

This Monday, at 10:00 p.m., it is the turn of the towns of Burela, Lugo, and Morata de Tajuña, Madrid. Its inhabitants compete to get into the semifinals of the Spanish Television contest. Galicians and Madrilenians will compete for victory sponsored by two well-known faces of exception, Paula Vázquez (49 years old) and Miki Nadal (49 years old).

To get to the next level, they will have to successfully pass the tests that the program has prepared for tonight. ‘Kimonos’, ‘Champions Prix’, ‘Basketball in diapers’ and ‘Operation Meow Meow’, among other classics of the space, can be seen through the small screen. Both towns will try by all means to get a good number of points to unseat those from Olvera and the Leonese from Bembibre who, at the moment, occupy the top positions in the general classification.

Morata de Tajuña, Madrid, which participates with 30 of its inhabitants, has thrown itself into the contest with the passage of its town. They have grown up watching this program every summer at home and many have signed up to make their dream come true. When the lists to sign up were opened, the Morata city council received the registration of about 500 interested people in just 20 minutes. Most of them will have to settle for watching the program from the giant screen that has been installed in the municipality.

They will try not only to win and get that place in the semifinal but also to be above the municipality of Colmenarejo, last year’s representatives of the Community of Madrid. They will do so thanks to volunteers of all kinds. From retirees (represented by an 82-year-old woman), administrators and journalists to people who are a priori more qualified for dedicating themselves professionally to sport.

For their part, those from Burela (Lugo), dressed in blue during the contest and captained by Bruno Oroza, will have a team with a high physical condition. This was announced by its mayor, Carmela López, in La Voz de Galicia. “It is indeed a comedy program, but the tests are demanding. It’s laughable to see it, but then…”, he said about his decision when selecting the inhabitants to participate in the contest.

They also hope to be at the level of the other municipalities that already represented Galicia in past seasons: Pazos de Borben (1995), Viveiro (1996), Vilanova de Arousa (1997), Ribadeo (1998), Muíños and A Cañiza (1999), Beade (2000), A Rúa and As Neves (2001), Rubiá (2002), Corcubión (2003), Valga (2004), A Merca (2005), and Brión (2023).

In this third installment of the first phase of the contest in which 14 localities compete, you will be able to see hilarious new games, stellar performances by the Vaquilla and more falls than in the cycling tour. They will also have Paula Vázquez, as Burela’s representative, and Miki Nadal as Morata de Tajuña’s godfather. These two familiar faces will do everything possible for their respective towns to win the races.

‘The Grand Prix of the Summer’, in figures
With this confrontation, Ramón García and his team hope to surpass the ‘grandfather and child program’ the figures of its premiere on July 8 with a 15.2% share of the screen and 1,531,000 viewers. A notable difference from what was achieved last year when, in its debut in 2023, it achieved an impressive 26.1% share of the screen and two million viewers.
