Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill practiced moderately and coach Mike Vrabel said it will not be until before Sunday’s game that it will be decided if the experienced player will see action in the visit of the Titans to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Titans (5-2) have Tannehill on the list of players in doubt and will be under observation Saturday before the trip to Kansas City.
NFL: Tannehill trains light, remains in doubt
Tannehill’s lineup was in doubt a week ago until he was ruled out ahead of Tennessee’s trip to Houston, where rookie Malik Willis debuted as the NFL’s starting quarterback.
Tennessee has seven overtime hours to start Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs (5-2), which is a lead.
Tannehill sprained his right ankle in the Oct. 23 win against Indianapolis and left the stadium that day wearing a splint.
Last week the quarterback, who has 11 seasons in the NFL, did not play in the team’s 17-10 victory over Houston, a situation that broke his streak of 49 games as a starter with Tennessee.
The seasoned player said Wednesday that his mobility and discomfort will be deciding factors.
Tannehill stayed in Nashville, while Willis threw just 10 passes for 55 yards and was caught three times in his first NFL starter.
The Titans won the game in which Derric Henry received the ball 32 times for carrying, the most by a runner in a game this season. Henry is a two-time running back champion in the NFL.
The Titans will be without starting safety Amani Hooker (who has a left shoulder injury) or fullback Tory Carter (who has a neck problem).
The lineup of Jeffery Simmons, a defensive tackle selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021, is in doubt because he did not train all week because of a sprained left ankle.
Outside linebacker Bude Dupree is also on the horizon due to his inclusion on the sick list.
Defensive lineman Kevin Strong is also on hold with an ankle injury.
