Jerry Jones, owner of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, on Friday called the report issued by a U.S. congressional committee of the investigation into the Washington Commanders’ sexual harassment cases politically biased.
“I hope our fans see how politically biased this report is. It’s that stupid. My point is that there is bias throughout,” stressed Jones, who noted that this was aimed at forcing Commanders owner Dan Snyder to sell the team.
Last Thursday a congressional committee accused Snyder and the NFL of interfering in sexual harassment investigations weighing on the team.
In 2020, allegations were made public by several female cheerleaders and former employees of the team who accused the franchise, particularly Dan Snyder, of having a poor work culture with the women who have worked there for 20 years.
In July 2021 the NFL fined the Washington Commanders $10 million for these events.
Despite that sanction, the Congressional committee report reprimanded the NFL for failing to prevent Snyder from interfering with its investigation of harassment allegations and for failing to adequately address the Commanders’ owner’s conduct.
The above is because the $10 million penalty imposed on the team was the product of a negotiation between the NFL, Snyder and the Commanders’ attorneys, rather than leaving the decision to the NFL executive committee as is the standard.
Hours after the release of the report the league defended itself against these allegations.
“Far from impeding the investigation, the common interest agreement allowed the NFL to assume oversight of the matter in an efficient manner and avoided the possibility of delay and inconvenience to witnesses,” NFL chief spokesman Brian McCarthy replied.
This Friday Jerry Jones insisted that the results of the investigation were biased to pressure Dan Snyder to divest from his team.
“My point is that there is bias throughout. There are stories behind the stories. The facts are that Mr. Snyder’s minority partners really did everything they could to try to get him to sell,” argued Jones.
