BAXI Manresa, king of derbies this season in the Endesa League (four wins out of a possible five), wants to extend their good run in the competition this Saturday (6:00 p.m.) in Fontajau, where they will face Bàsquet Girona.
BAXI Manresa, to win in Girona to look up
Pedro Martínez’s men come into another Catalan derby in very good form, after two consecutive victories against direct rivals for the play-offs: 81-83 against Joventut Badalona and 78-71 against Dreamland Gran Canaria.
The team from Manresa has already emerged victorious in the two derbies played against La Penya (102-89 and 81-83), and those in the first round against Bàsquet Girona (101-87) and Barça (82-83). The only derby defeat in the Endesa League was the one against Barça at the Nou Congost (77-87) just before the break for the Copa del Rey.
BAXI looks up
BAXIManresa, ninth in the table with a record of 14 wins and 11 losses, wants to win another Catalan derby to provisionally get into the positions that give access to the knockout rounds for the title.
Pedro Martinez will be without Argentine power forward Juampi Vaulet, who is still recovering from his hamstring muscle injury.
Both teams have two of the best outsiders in the Endesa League. Guards Brancou Badio (BAXI Manresa) and Ike Iroegbu (Bàsquet Girona) average 14 points scored per game, so it will be, predictably, one of the particular duels of the clash.
