Daniel Jones, the new millionaire in the NFL with a 4-year, $160 million contract with the Giants

According to NFL Network, the New York Giants secured their franchise quarterback, Daniel Jones, to a four-year, $160 million contract. The deal reportedly includes $82 million fully guaranteed covering the first two years of the contract.

Jones’ average annual salary of $40 million places him as the NFL seventh-highest-paid quarterback, while his guaranteed salary of $82 million is the eighth-highest in the league. The deal also includes $35 million in incentives.

Jones’s success last season earned him that extension. He had the lowest interception percentage in the league (1.1%) and reached career highs in completion percentage (67.2%), air yards (3,205), passer rating (92.5), rushing yards (708) and rushing touchdowns (7).

Franchise tag placed in Barkley
Jones’s success is closely tied to that of running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 1,312 yards and gained 1,650 yards from the line of scrimmage, finishing seventh in the league last season.

Since the Giants were able to reach an agreement with Jones, they placed the franchise tag on Barkley, guaranteeing him $10.091 billion in 2023. The Giants have until July 17 to reach a long-term agreement with the running back.

The Giants are now looking to build a strong supporting cast around their franchise players, relying on Jones and Barkley to lead them to a better playoff spot next season.

In a statement about his new contract, Jones expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for continuing to play for the Giants, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity and faith the organization has shown in me. I’m excited to continue working with my teammates and coaches to build something special here in New York.”
