Sweden won the bronze in Edmonton in August 2022 after not medaling in 2021. The Americans have won 13 medals at the World Juniors, including five golds, two silvers, and six bronzes. Sweden has 20 medals, with two golds, 11 silvers, and seven bronzes. The last time the programs met was on Aug. 14, 2022, which was a 3-2 U.S. victory in the group stage.

The Americans lost their semifinal on Wednesday to Canada, 6-2. Logan Cooley and Kenny Connors scored in the first 10:30 of the game to put the United States up 2-0 before Canada stormed back for the win.
The U.S. peppered Canadian goaltender Thomas Milic with 45 shots but 17-year-old goalie Trey Augustine faltered in the second period, allowing three scores.
Sweden led 1-0 just 1:39 into the second period when Ludvig Jansson scored but Czechia tied the game with 39 seconds left in regulation with an extra attacker on the ice and won it 9:10 into overtime.
Cooley leads the Americans with six goals and 12 points in the tournament while Jansson has four goals and eight points to top Sweden’s roster.
